Samsung’s first Unpacked event of 2024 is official, here’s what to expect

Samsung Unpacked 2024

Samsung has announced its first Unpacked event for 2024 the only way it knows how – with a vibrant multicultural teaser video.

The South Korean company’s first Unpacked event of the year has always been dedicated to its new flagship Galaxy S devices and we don’t expect that to change this year, with a new Galaxy S24 slate waiting in the wings.

The event announcement video was completely devoid of new device details. Samsung wants to save those for the event, but the video still contains a few bits of useful info. We know the event will take place on 17 January 2024 and that ‘Galaxy AI’ will be shown off in what Samsung is calling “a new era of mobile”.

If the inclusion of AI surprises you, where have you been for the last 12 months?

Fancy a newly Unpacked Galaxy?

Other than a glimpse of a device’s outline, no other info was confirmed in the Unpacked teaser. However, in the company’s teaser tweet post on X.com, the glittery box could be confirmation of a previous rumour – that the flagship S24 Ultra would receive a slight redesign including a titanium build.

The internal specs will only be confirmed on the day but we’re expecting a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset doing all the AI heavy lifting inside the S24 Ultra at the very least and possibly in the S24+ as well. If Samsung and Qualcomm are still friends, that chipset is likely to be slightly faster than this year’s other SD 8 Gen 3 devices. As for the base model S24, there are reports that Samsung has opted to use its own Exynos chipset but that’s still pending confirmation.

If you want to catch the unpacking as it’s happening, you’ll need to tune in to Samsung’s website or its YouTube channel on the 17th of January at 20h00 SAST. Or, you know, get AI to summarise Stuff’s reports the next day.
