Chinese electronics manufacturer Oppo has officially launched the Reno10 Pro+, the company’s latest mid-range smartphone, at a South African launch event in Johannesburg. This serves as the company’s global launch and comes just five weeks after the company debuted the Reno10 series in China last month.
When it comes to new tech, South Africa often finds itself near the bottom of the launch schedule. It’s nice to see that’s changing. Well, for this launch anyway.
Another upper mid-ranger enters the ring
With the device in hand, you’ll be gazing at a 6.74in OLED display with nary a bezel in sight. It boasts a relatively high resolution of 1240 x 2772, is capable of a 120Hz refresh rate, and features HDR10+ support.
As is often the case, Oppo is choosing to focus on two areas with the Reno10 Pro+ – camera chops and fast charging.
The Reno10 Pro+’s 4,700mAh battery definitely isn’t the largest, especially in the upper mid-range segment. But it makes up for that with Oppo’s blazing-fast 100W Supervooc flash charging technology. The company claims this will get the device from 0 to 50% charge in 10 minutes or 0 to full in 27 minutes.
Along with fast charging, Oppo has also included its “Dynamic Computing Engine” which “ensures up to 48-month fluency”. In other words, even at 100W charging the battery’s performance will last and it shouldn’t go pop in your pocket.
Say cheese in portrait
Oppo often places a large emphasis on its device’s camera performance and it’s no different with the Reno10 Pro+. Although, this time the company is specifically focusing on portrait shots from the telephoto camera.
The 64MP telephoto camera features an aperture of f/2.5, 3x optical zoom, and Optical Image Stabilisation. Oppo has paired those hardware specs with its in-sensor zoom technology and Portrait Expert Engine to make the Reno10 Pro+ “the best portrait smartphone of 2023”. But then of course it would say that.
Another notable feature of the Reno10 Pro+ is 5G support. Well, it’s not that notable if we’re being honest. Oppo has hitched the descriptor to the end of the Reno10 Pro+’s name wherever it appears. It’s 2023 so 5G in an upper mid-range device is kinda expected and it’s not like the company makes two versions of the device that it needs to make the distinction clear. Oppo definitely isn’t the only culprit guilty of this and we’re sure it won’t be the last.
The Reno10 Pro+ will be available in South Africa from “early July” with a “special launch offer” of R900/m on a 24-month contract. Along with the Reno10 Pro+, Oppo also announced that the vanilla Reno10 will be making its way to SA but we’ll have to wait until August for that.
