Ayoba users spike ahead of fourth birthday

Ayoba main

Ayoba is growing at super speed. The Africa-focused super app is turning four years old this month. In that time it has racked up more than 25 million monthly active users – with five million gained this year alone.

Its active users are predominately in South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana, Uganda, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, and the Republic of Congo recorded 20 million active users in December 2022.

“Our journey has been transformative, and the positive response from our users fuels our drive for innovation,” says Ayoba CEO Burak Akinci.

Now that’s Ayoba

Because it’s a super app, Ayoba offers a mixed bag of features and content. These range from instant messaging, music, and gaming to micro-apps with educational, news, sports, and entertainment.

In 2023, it focused on its content and communication features, which seems to have boosted the service to the tune of an additional five million users in under five months.

The app saw a 35% increase in messages and a 16% increase in stories and VoIP calls.

“The first four months of 2023 was a period of significant growth and development for ayoba. We have improved our socialisation and messaging functionalities, enhanced our microapp experience and added many more features,” Akinci says.

It also added features to boost businesses across Africa.

“The microapp’s vertical has also seen significant evolution in Q1…as a direct shortcut to the vertical has been added on the bottom navigation bar. This section, referred to as an evolving ‘ecosystem for small African business’ – and some larger ones – allows service providers easy access to the existing…user base with minimal effort,” the service says.

Though Ayoba started in partnership with MTN, the super app is now available on all networks.

“[The service’s] growth trajectory has it on track to achieve 100 million monthly active users by 2025 in line with MTN’s Ambition 2025 strategy,” it says.
