WhatsApp adds new options for polls and captions

Meta is about to drop new WhatsApp updates designed to “make chats a little more productive and fun”. The messaging platform announced updates to its Polls and Caption features in a blog post this week.

WhatsApp Polls, launched last year, currently allow a user to ask a group a question and then give them options to pick from. Until this week, those responding could only pick one option.  The latest update allows respondents to pick more than one. So if you’re planning a party and asking friends about the kind of dessert they like, they can pick vanilla and chocolate, instead of just one or the other.

Users will also be able to search for previous polls within their chats. “Now, you can filter messages by polls, just like you can for photos, videos, or links,” says WhatsApp. This comes in handy if a user is unable to answer a poll immediately.

Following the update, users be able to keep track of the poll results. They’ll also receive notifications when people vote in their poll.

Oh caption, my caption

WhatsApp has made an update to Captions, a feature that has previously offered either convenience or landed users in trouble.

Previously when forwarding a document or image with a caption, users would have to manually reproduce the caption prior to hitting ‘send’.

Then came a point when the platform added the ability to forward a message with a caption. But then some users would accidentally forward a document or image with a caption meant for their eyes only… and not the person they are forwarding the image or document to.

The latest update will hopefully solve both issues.

Meta is giving users options, so they’ll hopefully only have themselves to blame if they send a caption they were not meant to send.

“ You have the option to keep, delete or completely rewrite it to give extra information when sharing photos between chats,” WhatsApp said.

The updates will be available worldwide in the coming weeks.
