Openview is launching Ultraview, a paid-for TV service that’ll add more channels

Openview Ultraview channels

Free TV is dead. Kinda. eMedia, the company behind Openview, recently announced the launch of ‘Ultraview’ – a new pay-tv service that’ll add additional “bouquets” of content, appearing alongside the free channels that Openview currently offers. Ultraview officially hits the small screen at noon on Monday, 6 March.

For the uninitiated, Openview’s whole schtick is free TV. After paying Openview’s one-time fee to own their decoder and satellite dish, that is.

We’d rather have Ultramel

Ultraview runs as a subscription-based service, with eMedia stating that it would offer ‘niche content’ across several packages. The first of which is the Pride bouquet, offering two channels focused on the LGBTQI+ community – OUTtv and FUSE – available for a measly R75/m.

Newcomers to Ultraview will have the chance to try out the Pride bouquet on a 3-day trial period, after which the R75/m fee will be added to the bill. Ultraview subscribers have the option of cancelling their subscription at any time.

Those only interested in the service’s free channels can continue to use them, without any additional fees added on.

“Ultraview will be adding more bouquets to the service very soon. Viewers can look forward to the Spice bouquet, which will also feature two channels of delightful content,” says eMedia. At the time of writing, the contents of the Spice bouquet and other upcoming bouquets are still unknown.
