A moment that made history, Lionel Messi celebrating the FIFA 2022 World Cup, spiked to become the most-liked post on the social media platform Instagram in just a few days.

The footballer posted a slideshow of his pictures celebrating and holding the World Cup gold trophy just moments after Argentina’s victory against France during the final game in Qatar.

That’s rather a Messi one

This is another record for the legendary football star. The post had over 71 million likes in just three days. The previous record holder was a stock image of an egg that was posted in 2019 and has more than 57 million likes.

What’s shocking is that the stock image of an egg was liked over every other post on Instagram to date — though it was part of a viral campaign to get to that point. The Verge points out that most top posts on Instagram are football-related and mostly from football stars. It’s not much of a surprise that Messi made it to the top following the World Cup win.

The Argentinian player has 404 million followers on Instagram. Unfortunately, the footballer’s rival, Cristiano Ronaldo, remains second only to the official Instagram account with 520 million followers.
