iOS 16.2 rolls out Apple Music Sing karaoke feature just in time for the holidays

Apple Music Sing.

Just in time for the holidays, Apple Music has launched Sing. Sing consists of more than 50 dedicated playlists and karaoke features for devices running iOS 16.2. It’ll work on the iPhone 11 and later, the iPad 9 and 10, the iPad Air 4 and 5, the iPad Pro  M1 and M2, and the new Apple TV 4K.

Apple says it “allows users to sing along to their favourite songs with adjustable vocals and real-time lyrics”. Songs on the playlist include duets, choruses, and anthems.

To prevent the tone-deaf from disturbing the neighbors with caterwauling, Apple Music Sing makes the listening experience a bit more bearable for listeners. To avoid listening to out-of-tune relatives massacring a classic tune, it’s possible to keep the original artist’s voice in the mix. If someone’s actually good at what they do, the original vocalist may be turned off.

Real-time animated lyrics dance to the rhythm of the vocals. This will hopefully keep your two left feet tapping in time to the song in question. Background vocals, which tend to be sung at the same time that the diva in the lead is doing their thing, are animated a little differently. This should let larger groups sing together with only the normal amount of confusion.

Finally, a duet view displays multiple vocalists on opposite sides of the screen for multi-singer tracks so everyone sticks to their lines. If only every performance was this easy.
