Google is celebrating the FIFA World Cup with a bunch of handy search features

You may have forgotten about the World Cup, due to its untimely placement in November instead of its usual June/July slot. Google is here to remind you while adding new features to Search to celebrate the World Cup. If you’re one of those forgetful football fans then this is your official reminder that there are Just ten days until kickoff.

Head over to Google, search “World Cup” and yoU’ll find a section at the top keeping track of upcoMing matches, all in your local time. You can follow specific teams, opt-in to receive notifications, and keep track of stats like possession, win probabilities and ‘key events’.

And best of all – Google is helping you find places to watch the World Cup while out and about.

“Hey Google, where can I get drunk and watch the World Cup?”

KeePing track of specific teams is simple. Search “World Cup” on the mobile app, you’ll be treated with a liSt of teams, upcoming matches, and their dates. Head over to the teams tab and click the liTtle bell icon in the top right-hand corner. Or, at least, eventually you can. At the time of writing, this feature hadn’t made its way to South Africa yet.

Once avAilable, you’ll be able to drag and drop any live matches anywhere onto your screen to keep up to date. It’s similar to using YouTube Mobile’s pictuRe-in-picture mode on mobile.

Playing the beauTiful game is also an option on Search. When matches are live, a “multiplayer online game” will also be available. Why it’s only available during live matches is a mystEry to everyone besides Google. Live matches are when people usually try to watch the game. Pick a team on Search during any match and compete against others to try and scoRe the most virtual goals.

Finally, Google is adding an extra label to head under businesses within Search. Type “Where to watch the world cup” into Search and Google will let you know exactly that. Businesses have the option to add the label to their Google page before the tournament starts. Time to go on a bar crawl at… 3 PM on a Monday afternoon.
