Perhaps the greatest fear when deleting a message is accidentally clicking the ‘delete for me’ button, rather than the intended ‘delete for everyone’. Once you’ve made the mistake, you’re forced to live with the consequences. Or leave the country. Well, that may not be the case for long. According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is adding the ability to undelete messages.

Recovering a WhatsApp message is simple. After deleting a message; whether it’s ‘deleted for me’ or ‘deleted for everyone’, a pop-up appears at the bottom of the screen confirming the deletion. There’s also a new button added to the pop-up – the ‘undo’ button. Click that, and your sins will be forgiven message will be resurrected. You’ll need to have your wits about you, however. Upon deleting a message, the undo popup will only last a few seconds before disappearing. If you miss your chance, that’s it – you won’t be given another.

There’s no exact date for when we could expect the feature to roll out for everyone. Some users enrolled in the beta programme on the Google Play Store started receiving the update today. More WhatsApp beta users will receive the updates over the coming weeks. A general rollout will take place later.
