Education, in a country like South Africa, is arguably the most important (and underappreciated) aspect of changing a life. Vodacom — you all know who Vodacom is — is offering bursaries to South African students studying in specific fields.
The programme is being run by the Vodacom Foundation. It’s open to school leavers, and first, second, and third-year students studying in various STEM fields. Those chosen for a corporate cash injection will be picked “…based on merit and their neediness for financial assistance.”
Vodacom comes to the party
The mobile service provider isn’t being totally altruistic. Vodacom, based on the specific programs it’s funding, is looking for a few good staff. Students in Information Technolgy and Information Systems, as well as three sciences (Computer, Mathematical, and Data Analytics), are eligible. So are Computer and Electronics Engineering students. But there are a few more qualifying factors to be aware of.

Prospective bursary winners need to be South African, by birth. Grade 12 students applying need a Matric Exemption — that’s a 70% average across all their subjects. Vodacom is looking, specifically, for students who will study full-time in South Africa. Students may also apply if they’re already in their first year (and upwards), studying full-time at a South African tertiary institute. In that instance, their average marks for university should be 65% or better in the previous year of study.
