Here’s how to upskill using R50 Udemy courses, paid for with FNB eBucks

In April, FNB and online learning platform Udemy became partners. The team-up gives certain FNB customers access to 400 courses on Udemy, for an extremely discounted rate. All FNB and RMB customers that qualify for eBucks may make use of the offerings. We’re here to tell you how.

Over 12,000 South Africans have already made use of the cheap Udemy courses. We’re pretty sure it’s because each course only cost R50. The fact you’re able to use eBucks to pay for them doesn’t hurt either. Many FNB customers have used the partnership to hone their skills in Excel, public speaking, and computer programming.

Learn how to learn

It’s simple enough to do the same thing for yourself. All it takes is a very specific bank account, and then a couple of brief steps. And a bit of money, in the shape of eBucks. So it’s not even real money anyway. But how do you get started? Well…

First of all, make sure you bank with FNB or RMB – and we’re not joking. FNB tends to be cool about many of its services, but this is a non-negotiable. Next, make sure you qualify for eBucks. If you do, then you can move on.

  1. Log into either the FNB or RMB Private Bank App
  2. Click the eBucks tab, click ‘Partners’
  3. Click on Udemy
  4. Browse the 400 courses on offer. Pick one to start with
  5. Register an account on Udemy, or log in to an existing Udemy account
  6. Pay the R50 fee (in eBucks) for your chosen course

And… that’s it. If you did all that correctly, you should receive an email from Udemy with a link to your course. We can’t tell you how to finish the course, though. That bit’s on you to figure out.

Customers that purchase courses using eBucks may take advantage of the bargain price for six courses per year. Courses can only be bought twice a month, so make sure you use them wisely. This shouldn’t be a problem for the majority, since Udemy courses take some time to complete.

In total, customers using the offer will only spend R300, if they use all their courses in a year. It’s rare to see a single course drop below the R300 mark when browsing Udemy. Even sales don’t tend to price this low, making a R50 course a brilliant deal. The only con here is the condensed library you’re given to choose from. But if Udemy and FNB view this as a success, it’s possible the library will expand for eBucks customers. If not… well then, lesson learned.
