Lego is releasing a 2,807 piece Bowser that shoots fireballs

This October, Lego is set to release a 2,807-piece Bowser – the largest in the Super Mario line thus far. The Great Demon King is releasing under Lego’s Adults Welcome line, meant to try to entice more adults to participate in Lego. As if they need the temptation. And if you’re being honest, would you buy this for your kid? No! You’d keep it for yourself. The trick is bringing your child with you to the toy shop so nobody throws weird looks your way.

One look at The Mighty Bowser shows that it’s a step above the rest of the Super Mario lineup. It features a movable head and mouth. It goes a step further,  giving Bowser the ability to shoot fireballs from his mouth. And of course, Bowser needs something to stand on. The set comes with a custom-built platform, featuring two torch-lit stands beside Bowser.

Bowser has also been uniquely designed – meaning that his body moves similar to how he would in a Mario game. This is something you need to see for yourself, so here ya go.

“Bowser is, quite simply, the ultimate boss – and we’re delighted to announce that we’re introducing this oversized version to the Lego Super Mario adult line for a little added peril,” said Lego senior designer Carl Merriam.

Welcome to the Mario Party, pal

If you were hoping to lay your hands on this set, you’re going to have to wait until 1 October. The good news is, that’s only two and a half months away. Sadly, at the time of writing, Lego has yet to open up pre-orders for this marvelous monstrosity. But it can’t be far away.

And now for the not-so-good news; purchasing the King of Koopas will set you back $270, or roughly R4,700. It’s a high price, yes, but that’s licensed Lego sets for you. They tend to have a little extra sting to them. Still, local pricing at least tends to match the overseas folks, so don’t expect Bowser to top R5,000.

If October is too far away for you, then check out the rest of Lego’s Adults Welcome catalogue. You may find something primed for your needs if you look hard enough. Or even if you just glance at it. Seriously, there’s a lot of Lego there.
