If you were greeted by a 500 error when trying to access a service that connects to the internet this morning, it might be because Cloudflare is throwing a tantrum. Well, some parts of it anyway.
The outage started just after 08:30am, today 21 June, and has affected connection to several popular services like Discord, Crunchyroll, Feedly, Coinbase, Shopify, League of Legends, and Valorant.

Cloudflare have indicated the outage isn’t worldwide but the company’s CTO, John Graham-Cumming, said on a Hacker News forum that “a lot of places” have been affected. “Problem with our backbone. We know what. Rollbacks etc. happening. Bring it back up in chunks,” said Graham-Cumming.
Cloudflare’s status page, which is updated promptly, says the problem was because of a critical P0 incident that was identified at 08:34am. Cloudflare implemented a fix 08:57am. At 09:20am, the page updated with the potentially good news that Cloudflare was monitoring the results of the fix.
A quick scroll through of the page showed that the CloudflareAPI service was offline and that many areas were being rerouted. The service has since been brought back online with the rerouted areas sure to follow as things stabilize.
While the situation is still developing, these kinds of things rarely last that long. It should only be a matter of time before everything is up and running again. If that isn’t the case, we will be sure to update you.
