Honor is looking to establish itself in the South African smartphone market after splitting from parent company Huawei in November 2020. Most recently, it is trying to do that with its flagship Magic 4 series.
The Magic 4 Pro will be available to South African consumers from 10 June. It will be unencumbered by American sanctions and will ship with access to Google’s full suite of apps.
The handset was initially unveiled in February in China and released in April of this year. With only a two-month difference, this one is still relatively fresh.

Up front is a 12MP ultrawide selfie cam with another dTOF sensor. This one allows the face unlock tech to be much more secure so baddies can’t just use a picture of your face. They have to reproduce your head, Mission Impossible-style
On the Honor Magic 4 Pro, you’ll spend your time looking at a rather large 6.81in 120Hz LTPO OLED display. Honor made a big deal about this one featuring 1,920Hz PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) dimming, but you probably won’t notice the difference.

This is all driven by Qualcomm’s eight-core Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset. The models coming to SA will feature 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Unfortunately, that isn’t expandable. You’re stuck with what you get.
A 4,600mAh battery powers the device and can support 100W wired charging with the necessary charger included or 100W wireless charging. The 135W wireless charger will need to be purchased separately.
Prices for this flagship will vary depending on where you look. Their recommended retail price will be R23,000 but if you don’t feel like paying that, you can get one from Technomobi for R21,000. They will also be available on contract through South African mobile operators.
