It’s that time of year and Stuff’s got you covered. Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC 2022) is on this week from 6 to 10 June. Tonight is Apple’s developer live stream, starring CEO Tim Cook and other important executives. Need to have those software update details right bloody now? What to watch
This will be Apple’s first actual event since 2019. It will be broadcast from the Steve Jobs Theater at Apple Park in Cupertino, California. Cook gave the WWDC 2020 keynote from the stage, though the auditorium was empty. Now, in 2022, there is a slight return to normalcy with a live, though smaller-than-usual, audience in attendance. But after the COVID-19 years, Apple has developed some skill at virtual events. Anyone watching at home should be able to sit back and enjoy.
The WWDC 2022 keynote starts at 19h00 SAST, and we expect that there will be a lot to reveal, like the new lockscreen and widgets for iOS 16 for the iPhone 14, iPadOS 16, macOS 13, and maybe some new features for watchOS. Software updates, in other words. You did see the name of the event, right?
And then, of course, there’s the rumoured M2 chip and Apple’s AR/VR headset. There’s also talk of an Apple Silicon-powered Mac Pro. Maybe we will actually see some hardware? Maybe that last one, but it’s unlikely that M2 will get more than a mention. Augmented reality, on the other hand, might turn up, but you probably won’t see a headset this year.
