Chinese smartphone manufacturer Honor has announced the brand’s latest series of devices – the Honor 70 lineup. It’s comprised of three models, the Honor 70, 70 Pro and 70 Pro+. This will be the first time the brand has released a numbered flagship device since splitting from parent company Huawei in November 2020.
The 70 series won’t be competing with the relatively new Magic 4 phones. These won’t have every bell and whistle that those devices offer but will provide many flagship features at an attractive price with an arguably better SoC, at least according to Nanoreview.
Seems like Honor is doing fine after the breakup
Within the Honor 70 series, the Pro and Pro+ models are largely the same. The only notable differences are the choice of processor and the lack of a 512GB storage option in the Pro+. In the 70 Pro+, that processor is the new 4nm Dimensity 9000 chipset from MediaTek.
That’ll be complemented with up to 12GB of RAM and a capped 256GB of storage. The 70 Pro will come with the mid-range Dimensity 8000 SoC and the same memory and storage options, plus a 512GB option. You’ll get a Snapdragon 778G+ chipset in the stock 70 with the same storage and memory options as the 70 Pro.
Both the 70 Pro and Pro+ will use the same 6.78in 1,200 x 2,652 10-bit 120Hz OLED display while the vanilla model will feature a slightly smaller 6.67in 1,080 x 2,400 10-bit 120Hz OLED display.

All three models will use the same 54MP Sony camera sensor with an f/1.9 aperture for the main shooter. That’s accompanied by a 50MP ultrawide sensor which will also function as a macro sensor across all three. The Pro and Pro+ models each get an 8MP telephoto sensor with 3x optical zoom and up to 30x digital zoom. Up front, the standard 70 has a 32MP selfie cam while the Pro and Pro+ get a 50MP selfie cam with a generous 100 degree field of view.
As for battery specs, it seems like Honor has put in some work here. The standard Honor 70 nets a 4,800mAh Li-Ion battery but only 66W fast charging. The Pro and Pro+ both receive a 4,500mAh Li-Po battery and 100W fast charging. That’ll apparently manage 60% in 15 mins, reaching 100% after 30 minutes.

If you’re reading this from China, you can pre-order the devices already. The Honor 70 Pro+ 8GB/256GB option goes for CNY 4,300, or a little under R10,000. If you bump the RAM up to 12GB the price will jump to CNY 4,600, or around R10,500. The base Honor 70 Pro with 8GB/256GB costs CNY 3,700, or R8,600. The 12GB/512GB option encroaches on Pro+ territory with a price tag of CNY 4,400 or R10,200.
As usual, you can expect local prices to be inflated as they include import tax and duties if these devices do eventually make their way over here. If Honor does decide to bring these here, based on the Magic4 Pro timeline, that may be around September or October this year.
