AfriForum launches free Afrikaans online streaming platform, AfriForumTV

NGO and civil rights group AfriForum has launched its own free Afrikaans online streaming service. You’ll never guess what it’s called. That’s right, AfriforumTV. You don’t need to be an AfriForum member to stream content in Afrikaans from different genres. Non-members can stream on the platform too. AfriForum launched its new service on 11 April 2022.

AfriforumTV

AfriForum TV’s content comprises Afrikaans entertainment, news, school sports, current affairs, reality programmes, podcasts, children’s entertainment, and lifestyle programmes. According to the group, the content is provided by AfriForum itself, institutions within the Solidarity Movement, and external content providers, “AfriForumTV is established to broaden the community as a gathering place for online entertainment to support the Afrikaans community and establish a new voice in the media world.”

According to Kallie Kriel, CEO of AfriForum, the creation of AfriForumTV is a logical next step toward AfriForum and the Solidarity Movement’s goal of establishing community self-reliance and independent institutions in a wide range of areas. “AfriForumTV currently offers an independent platform for fresh voices to convey a variety of messages and offer a wider choice to viewers,” he explains.

Kriel adds that AfriForum’s production houses have already produced several series, current affairs programmes, children’s programmes, and documentaries.

AfriForumTV viewers can explore various channels on TVs, computers, or cellphones via the AfriForum app on Google Playstore and will be available on the App Store soon.
