Some weekends, the only thing on your mind is games. Games, games, and more games. But eventually, your body must sleep and recharge. Imagine being able to sleep right after spending the evening carrying your friends in Rocket League. Being awesome online is a tiring job. Bauhutte understands this all too well.
For those who haven’t heard the name – Bauhutte is a Japanese retailer that specializes in multi-functional gaming furniture. From standing desks and gaming chairs to motorized gaming beds, Bauhutte’s kit is a great way to spend a few months’ salary all at once.
The company’s latest and strangest is a motorized gaming bed and desk combo. Using the bed/desk and electric bed frame in tandem allows one to go directly from sitting up at the desk to lying down and being ready to sleep with the tap of a button. Come morning, you wake up fully charged and ready to take on the game of your choice.
The downside? The sitting and sleeping positions don’t look particularly comfortable to use, especially for long periods of time.
Ja, Bauhutte’s expensive
You didn’t think it would be that easy, did you? According to Bauhutte’s site, you can trick out your gaming bed with a tonne of different accessories designed to make the experience even better. One suggestion is a ‘Gamer Wagon’ which is essentially just a shelf one can put snacks on. Bauhutte also suggests their combo-clothing rack, adjustable headboard, gaming beanbag, and best of all; a ninja onesie.
While many customers would scoff at the need for a gaming bed and its plenty of accessories it wouldn’t be fair to turn your nose up at it right away. Bauhutte has designed a product that may benefit those with mobility issues or even those with a very small living space. To these people, the gaming desk could be a life-changer when it comes to their gaming routine.
Price and availability
The Gaming Desk frame alone costs $480 (R7, 000) which is not a small number. Of course, the frame means nothing without the desk and accompanying accessories. There is some bad news for any South Africans who were planning on picking this one up. Bauhutte is focused on selling mainly to their home country of Japan. Even if you were lucky enough to find any of the products on Amazon Japan before they sold out, it would cost close to R10, 000. Before shipping. And since the bed on its own weighs just shy of 40kg…
While many won’t count this as a loss, some may be left heartbroken by Bauhutte’s decision not to sell their products overseas. The good news is that there’s nothing stopping you from building your own custom gaming desk from the thousands of motorised beds available on the market. It still won’t be cheap, but you won’t have to explain your choices to Customs. Just the salesperson.
