Sony suspends sales and orders for its ZV-E10 mirrorless camera, citing chip shortage

Sony ZV-E10 shortage

Sony has (re)joined the ranks of tech-makers tempering expectations ahead of the festive season. The Japanese company has already warned that the PlayStation 5 will be in shorter supply. Its ZV-E10 mirrorless camera, a favourite of vloggers, is also set to become a rarity for the next few months.

Sony announced this via its website, where it said (translated), “parts procurement is delayed due to the effects of global semiconductor shortages.”

Sony comes up short

This means that the company won’t be selling the shooter via its website. Nor will it take orders for units, meaning that what’s in store now is what we’ve got. “Regarding the resumption of order acceptance, we will consider it while observing the status of parts supply, and will inform you separately on the product information page,” the company said.

This is unfortunately not the only camera hardware Sony has suspended as a result of the ongoing chip shortage. The A7 II, A6400, and A6100 were all temporarily pulled in November this year. A selection of other gear, including Sony shotgun mics, is also in short supply. Canon, Fujifilm, and Nikon have all also made concessions to the lack of available semiconductor hardware this year.

Cameras aren’t the only field affected. Nintendo’s Switch will suffer reduced output this year. Laptops are scarce everywhere. Even BMW is stripping back features on some of its car models as a result of the chip shortage. Sony cutting back on some of its camera gear isn’t even all that surprising.
