Hideo Kojima grows in power – Kojima Productions launches TV, film and music arm

Hideo Kojima world domination

Hideo Kojima, the mind behind some of the strangest games to ever hit the mainstream, is extending his reach. The video game company established by the Japanese game designer, producer, director and writer is expanding its reach into more traditional media.

Soon, he will be unstoppable. Nah, actually, Stuff is fine with Hideo Kojima’s company Kojima Productions starting up a new division dedicated to making music, films, and TV shows. It’s obviously what the company founder has been keen on for… decades.

All hail Hideo Kojima

According to GamesIndustry.biz, Kojima Productions’ new division will be based in Los Angeles. It’ll be headed by Riley Russell, formerly of Sony PlayStation. Russell worked as the company’s chief legal officer and as a vice president of business affairs.

“The new division will be tasked with working with creative and talented professionals in television, music, and film, as well as the more familiar games industry,” Russell said. “[T]he goal of expanding the reach and awareness of the properties now under development at Kojima Productions, and to make them even more a part of our popular culture,” he continued.

Kojima Productions’ Yoshiko Fukuda also said, ” Our new division will take the studio into even more areas that present our creative narratives beyond videogames and to open up ways for our fans to communicate and immerse themselves in these spaces.”

All of which is a very dry way of saying that Hideo Kojima now has access to films and TV screens. Since his previous creations include people made of mist, women who breathe through their skin (for artistic reasons), and babies in bottles, it’s anyone’s guess what’ll turn up when Kojima creates something that’s all cutscene.
