If you measure your time like we do, then the emergence of Stuff’s October-November 2021 issue can mean only one thing: It’s (almost) October. Wait, that’s also how regular people measure time. Never mind, nothing to see here…

The latest issue of Stuff, obviously, which is always worth looking at. And this issue is even bigger than usual, with a wallet-pleasing 128 pages instead of our regular 104. The reason for this is  our Load Shedding special content, which covers everything from which generators to buy to how to cook when the power’s off to how Eskom got to the place it is today (plus, we spoke to Eskom head André de Ruyter to find out what’s next from the state power utility). Also in the October-November 2021 issue of Stuff is our explainer on how to become an even better photographer than you ever were before. And it’s not just about the kit, though there are some wonderful examples of photographic hardware to drool over. We’ve also got essential tips for levelling up your game, whether you’re after a boost to your street skills, are looking to improve your portrait portfolio or are keen on upsizing your action attributes. Okay, so maybe the gear’s got a little to do with it. Or, at least, some of the accessories. Find them all in this issue’s photography special.

We’ve also got looks at Samsung’s freshest phone hardware, only in the October-November 2021 issue. We take an early look at the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Samsung’s new smartwatch hardware, but it’s the Galaxy Z Flip 3 in-depth review that’ll catch your eye. Find out whether Samsung’s most accessible folding smartphone ever (it’s not much of a history but it’s a history, okay?) is worth laying out R22,000 for or whether you should go for something a little more… traditional.

In case you’re looking at leaving it all behind (and have a solid R1.5 million burning a hole in your bank account), then our test of the Land Rover Defender 90 might be just what you’re looking for. It’s got two doors, a 3.0l six-cylinder engine, a sunroof and the most comfortable interior you’ve ever taken off the road and over some uncomfortably large boulders. Plus, this Landy’s improved its in-vehicle tech skills, just a little bit. It’s less of a question of ‘do I want this?’ and more one of ‘can I afford this? Answer: Probably not. But it’s really nice to dream.
