If you’re making a supercar, you have to give it a mad name. Blade. Valkyrie. Or, in the case of the Aston Martin Valkyrie‘s successor, Valhalla. Which means the next vehicle is probably either going to be called Fenrir, Jörmungandr or Ragnarök.
But let’s not get caught on the future just yet. Valhalla awaits. Aston Martin’s newest hybrid supercar is the production version of the company’s AM-RB 003 hypercar concept, featuring plenty of power behind the steering wheel. Plus, it looks awesome enough to justify the title.
Reaching Valhalla
Aston’s newest machine has a top speed of 330km/h (which we’re betting is artificially limited) and a nought to 100km/h time of fewer than 2.5 seconds. That’s the combined influence of the electric motors (there’s one on each axle) and the 740-horsepower V8 twin-turbo engine tucked away under the bonnet. Total power comes to 937-horsepower when you calculate electric and petrol performance together. That’s one way to get to the afterlife in a hurry.
It’s not all impressive angles and stomach-destroying speed, though. The fairly lightweight hybrid (it clocks in at just over 1,550kg thanks to the carbon fibre shell) sports support for Apple CarPlay and Google’s Android Auto, and there’s a new infotainment system inside the cockpit, should you ever take your gleeful eyes off the rapidly approaching horizon.
If you’re hoping to be eco-conscious, the electric motors will let you — kinda. They’ve got a top speed of 130km/h but you’re also only getting a range of 15km. What we don’t know is what it’ll cost and when you can have one, but don’t expect it to be cheap.
