Lenovo, sans any real celebration or announcement, has revealed its newest smart clock, creatively named: the Smart Clock 2. Someone thought long and hard about that one. The Smart Clock 2, a high-tech bedside clock with a built-in Google Assistant, can now be viewed as “Coming soon” on an official product page.

Lenovo’s clock is pretty smart

In a nutshell, the Smart Clock 2 functions a lot as your phone does. Using Google assistant you can ask questions, get weather forecasts, check the news, check traffic, and more. Plus it tells time too. That’s, like, the clock part of “Smart Clock”. All while sitting on your bedside table.

Lenovo explicitly points out that you can mute the voice command feature at any point, and that there’s no camera, so, “…your privacy is assured.” Which we know is meant to be comforting but is honestly pretty creepy for some reason.

The clock is shaped like a tall trapezium of some sort, and is decked entirely in a fabric mesh, aside from the 4in touchscreen. Thanks to Google Assistant you can use the clock to control a variety of things in your home, if you’ve kitted it out with compatible tech.

What’s most interesting (for better or worse) about the new Smart Clock is the charging dock, with two features. The first is that it turns your clock into a nightlight. The second is that it comes with a wireless charging pad to charge up your phone cable-free. It’s pretty neat, if a little limited, but not nearly as cool as some other wireless charging concepts we’ve seen this year.

Price and local availability for Lenovo’s Smart Clock 2 is still TBD right now, but we’ll be sure to update this as that information pops up.
