South African start-ups and entrepreneurs take note: you can win big money and feel great about yourself at the same time if you enter the Hack The Planet challenge, which is aimed at tackling climate change.
Recently launched by Satellite Applications Catapult and the Commonwealth Secretariat, this competition is open for all participants in Commonwealth countries.
The idea is that innovative folk pitch their ideas facing communities around the world, linked to ocean degradation and the climate crisis. Oh and there’s £10,000 in prize money up for grabs for the winners.
Hack The Planet… but in a good way
According to the website, Hack The Planet is “looking for your ideas on how to solve the challenges of our ocean with concepts that include the power of imagery, connectivity or other applications from satellites. Your ideas should relate to one of the 10 challenges set out in the Commonwealth Blue Charter.”
“When you enter, we’re just looking for your ideas. Over the course of the next 5 months, we will help you to shape and hone your ideas into a winning concept, which might win a prize of £10,000!” it says.
The competition is open to anyone over the age of 18 who happens to live in a Commonwealth country – yes, that includes South Africa – and you can enter either as an individual, part of a team number up to five members or a micro-enterprise with up to 10 employees.
