Have you ever wondered how elves prepare a fresh salad or how orcs spice their meat? Ever wanted to taste a dwarf’s take on wine? Well, thanks to author Kyle Newman, now you can with his new cookbook, Heroes’ Feast: The Official D&D Cookbook, which is packed to the brim with mouthwatering recipes straight out of the perennially popular tabletop RPG, Dungeons & Dragons

Not only will this satisfy even the heartiest of appetites, but it will also surely heap an extra helping of immersion onto players’ plates. Players can integrate recipes into their campaigns and taste exactly what their characters are filling up on in the taverns they frequent when they aren’t braving dungeons or saving townsfolk.

Additionally, the cookbook lends a unique way to take a bite out of D&D lore. Newman co-wrote the book on D&D history, so you can trust him to present elven bread making in a way that is narratively appropriate and lore-accurate.

Dungeons, Dragons and Dinner

In an interview with CNET, Newman explained he and his co-authors poured over various pieces of Dungeons & Dragons media, examining dishes and assessing their possible transition from page to plate. They also delved deep into the cultures of the elves, dwarves, and so on to establish their culinary details. He went on to say that he found the down-time in D&D campaigns as memorable as the high-octane action. It was where role-play would readily occur, and he believes that dining could offer another level of immersion to players.

If your inner adventure is feeling hungry for a fantasy feast, or if you just adore the Dungeons & Dragons franchise and every piece of its lore, then this is the cookbook for you. Why don’t you use it to cook up some game-time snacks while you and your friends embark on a socially-distanced campaign online?
