Afterwards, the app then made suggestions on how to optimise and become more efficient to improve your running technique. That is very useful. I am definitely going to improve my performance.

Stuff’s resident triathlete Sally Hudson puts the Under Armour’s new Machina 2 connected shoes through their paces.
Because I am a triathlete, I run a lot. Running shoes are therefore an important part of my training equipment. So what more could a sports gadget-junky, triathlete want than an intelligent running shoe?
That’s what the UA Hovr Machina 2 promises to be and, I’m happy to report back, actually does.
When it comes to running, even for elite athletes, you can always do with more assistance. The shoes have embedded sensors that you link to a smartphone and UA’s Map My Run app via Bluetooth. Pairing the shoes was simple and quick, following the instructions. It was an unusual thing to do, who has ever paired their phone with their running shoes before?
Sadly, the speed was in my head. But the chip embedded in the shoe’s insole, through the app, gives you great insight into your running style. My cadence needs to be faster, while it measured my foot strike, ground contact time, speed, of course, and even the foot strike angle.
