If you’re a fan of DC Comics, or anything even tangentially related to superheroes, you’re no doubt aware of everything that’s happened over the weekend. To make up for a weird year and many cancelled events, DC Comics announced its own virtual event called, rather grandly, the DC Fandome; a name so ridiculous that it goes past dumb and circles back to being pretty cool. If you missed the event or have, perhaps more understandably than ever, been hiding under a rock then you might want to take a quick gander at some of the bigger announcements of the weekend. We gathered them all up here so you don’t need to go searching because that’s just the kind of helpful organisation we are.
Gotham Knights
A game that’s seemingly been teased for years now, the next project to feature Batman by Warner Bros. Montreal will…not actually feature Batman. The trailer for the game makes it explicitly clear: Bruce Wayne is dead and Gotham City is about to fall into chaos without its Caped Crusader to punch bad people in the nose. The task now falls to the extended Bat-Family: Batgirl, Robin, Nightwing and the Red Hood, to keep the city safe.
It already sounds like a great premise and it’s made even better by the fact that the game is playable either solo or in co-op with a buddy. It’s a flashy trailer, showing off how each hero will play and how they can work together to overcome the looming threat to Gotham. Also, watch after the logo for a surprise villain reveal. One which should…ruffle some feathers for comic book aficionados.
Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League
Another fantastic trailer to come out of the Fandome focused on Rocksteady’s new Suicide Squad game. Rocksteady developed the Batman: Arkham games, arguably some of the finest games ever made, so any new announcement from them is worth paying attention to. The trailer is purely cinematic and shows off the general vibe of the game but doesn’t really indicate what players can expect when it launches.
Still, it’s a fun trailer that you should definitely see. Especially for that ending.
The Batman: First Trailer
Our first proper look at Robert Batinsson donning the cowl, the first trailer Matt Reeves The Batman is grim, gritty and actually reminds me a lot of David Fincher’s Se7en but with less green and even more shadows. Seriously, this film looks dark and not just in terms of its content. Can you make out what’s happening? We had to turn the brightness on our monitors up.
That being said, it looks like a proper detective movie, the type of story that works best with Batman, considering he’s The World’s Greatest Detective and which is so painfully overlooked by many film adaptions. Possibly drawing inspiration from the acclaimed The Long Halloween storyline, Batman’s latest film venture is promising some good things.

Look, there were other things that came out of the DC Fandome but none of them as exciting as the above. The new Suicide Squad, named rather obviously as The Suicide Squad, directed by James Gunn had a cast reveal trailer and Wonder Woman 1984 dropped a new trailer showing off Kristen Wiig as Cheetah. Pretty cool stuff but let’s be honest, the Bat-Family won the day in terms of important announcements. We can’t wait to get our hands (and eyes!) on these adaptions when they arrive in the next couple of years.
