Huawei P30 range will be unveiled on 26 March but you can bet we’ll know all the details before then

Huawei has announced that they’re returning to Paris, France, to unveil the P30 range of smartphones. This after they announced the iconic triple-camera P20 Pro in the same city in 2018.

The company posted a tweet today, detailing the official launch date and city with the tagline “rules were made to be rewritten”. The teaser video includes a jump to a tight zoom on various images of French landmarks like the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe, which hints at the zooming capabilities of the upcoming range. We’re expecting to see the same (or a very similar) camera setup from our favourite flagship of 2018, the Huawei Mate 20 Pro.

Most notably, the news of a Paris launch means we won’t be seeing the P30 and its siblings at Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona next week. Huawei last used MWC as a launchpad for the P10, but has opted for independent announcement events since. Given how much happens at MWC doing their own event certainly improves their chances of standing out, and reduces the (granted, slim) chances of the new devices being overshadowed by something else.

Though we can only speculate via rumours at this stage about what unique features the P30 is going to offer, considering how good Huawei’s last few smartphones have been — and it’s obvious desire to make Samsung and Apple nervous — we’re expecting great things. Of course, it’d be wishful thinking to hope to be surprised. With phone leaks pretty much standard procedure now, we’ll doubtless know all of the key features of the P30 range long before the curtain lifts in Paris next month. C’est la vie.

MWC might be losing a few big players, with Samsung opting for an event beforehand (keep your eye on Stuff’s website tomorrow for all the deets), and Huawei going for an independent launch yet again. But maybe that means Sony, Nokia and others will have a better chance to flex. We’ll find out next week.
