Fujifilm SA has announced the X-T30 camera is a reality and it’ll be coming to South Africa in late March 2019. With the X-T3 launched late last year and Fujifilm’s naming conventions and habits, we fully expected to see an X-T30… we just weren’t sure when.
Traditionally the double-digit X-series cameras are smaller, cheaper and simpler to use than their single digit brethren, while still inheriting the best bits of the fancier models. The X-T30 is no exception. It gets the new 26.1MP X-Trans CMOS 4 sensor and X-Processor 4 image processing engine first seen in the X-T3, alongside standard features for the model range like automatic modes.
The Little Giant
Fujifilm’s calling its latest interchangeable lens camera body ‘The Little Giant’, and with good reason. Tipping the scales at a dainty 383g, the X-T30 is even smaller than its already compact predecessors.
In addition to the new sensor and processing tech, users can look forward to an improved, speedier autofocus (AF) system, a dedicated focus lever/joystick (of the sort found on the X-T3), and the ability to shoot 4K/30p video. The X-T30 will be available in black, silver or ‘charcoal silver’ (a sort of gunmetal grey). Fujifilm SA says it can’t confirm local pricing yet, but we’re expecting it to be in line with the X-T20’s pricing at launch… so probably around R20,000.
Alongside the new camera, Fujifilm’s also launching a new wide-angle lens, the Fujinon XF 16mm f/2.8. It’s weatherproof, weighs a mere 155g, and promises high-speed AF. Pop it on the X-T30 and you’ll have a great, pocketable kit for street photography (or holiday snaps).
