Earlier this year, Elon Musk mentioned that The Boring Company’s LA-based underground tunnel will be operational in December. It sounded outrageous and impossible. But nothing is impossible for the Musk.
Musk posted a video on Twitter showing the ‘disturbing’ length of the current tunnel, which seems to be nearing operation. He said that the 10 December opening is still on track and that he plans to have an ‘opening party’. We’re making a guess that it’ll be an underground party.

The Boring Company started construction on the 2 mile (3.2km) tunnel a year ago. It stretches from the Space X headquarters in California to another Los Angeles suburb.
But there are more plans at the end of the tunnel, as The Boring Company has been contracted to build tunnels for Chicago and Washington DC, as well as even more tunnels in LA.
At this point you might be asking what the point of the tunnels are. Transport, obviously, which could see passengers travel via autonomous electric skates. A load of between 8 and 16 people could travel at speeds of 200 to 250km/h — not Hyperloop-quick but still better than you’d manage above-ground. Musk believes going underground is the best solution for managing traffic. Guess we’ll see how well his plans work from 10 December 2018.
