Hopefully you’ve laid on a substantial internet connection for gaming in general, and if you haven’t, you’ll want to before Friday (12 October) for Call of Duty: Black Ops IV — because you’ll be doing a lot of downloading. There’s a rather large Day One patch required in order to get online and start playing — and it’ll cost you about 50GB.
And that’s whether you’re on Xbox One or PlayStation 4. Either way, “[t]he day one update package is roughly 50 GB” according to publisher Activision. That applies to the retail version of the game. If you’re opting for a digital download, then the final installed size is 55GB. No matter which option you select, you’re going to chew through a bunch of data.
Which isn’t much of an issue in places like the States and the UK, where good internet connections are prevalent, but here in South Africa not every gamer will be able to download 50GB in a matter of hours. That’ll mean there’s a little bit of a wait before you can start levelling up.
Happily South African retailer BT Games will stay open late (till 8PM) on Thursday for Black Ops IV pickups and sales. Game4u also has the game early for pre-order folks, and Raru pre-orders will arrive on Thursday, 11 October — which should be enough time to get the jump on the Day One patch. Soon you’ll be wrecking scrubs in Blackout along with the rest of the world.
