Here is Fujifilm’s mirrorless, leather accented, 4K-shooting X-A5

If you’re in the market for a new entry-level APS-C mirrorless camera then Fuji’s newly-announced X-A5, an addition to the company’s X Series of shooters — replacing the X-A3, a camera that we haven’t seen a whole lot of here in South Africa.

The Fuji X-A5 has a 24.2MP APS-C sensor using a more conventional Bayer colour filter array — rather than Fujifilm’s X-Trans solution. The compact shooter features 4K video recording and 4K image bursts at 15 frames per second, Bluetooth image transfer, and phase detection autofocus — which replaces the contrast detection autofocus seen in the X-A3.

There’s a 180-degree touchscreen display and the camera also includes a microphone jack, which could see it doing service as a vlogging camera as well — because you need to look at something retro while you’re shooting your Youtube vids.

The XC15-45mm f/3.5-5.6 OIS PZ lens that comes with the new mirrorless compact is a powered zoom, the first of its type to be released by Fujifilm. It’ll also be released as a standalone lens and it’s 136-gram weight will make it a very attractive option to existing users of Fuji cameras.

The X-A5 has been priced at $600 (R7,150) for the body plus the 15-45mm f/3.5-5.6 lens, for international launch on 8 February in black, brown, or pink accents. The lens will be available for $300 (R3,600) as a standalone, in black or silver. We’ve reached out to Fuji locally for a South African launch and pricing.
