TV meets social live streaming with the VOOV app

Live video streaming isn’t new, but it’s tough to stand out on platforms like YouTube when you’re competing with the likes of Taylor Swift. Plus, there’s no overlap with regular broadcast TV with existing video streaming services. What is new, meanwhile, is VOOV, South Africa’s social live streaming app, brought you (and us) by Tencent, the same company behind music streaming service JOOX.

Social live streaming, eh? What does that mean? It means you get to be the star of your own show, in real-time, and can keep up with the local personalities that matter to you, all from one app.

Download VOOV for free for Android or iOS and start shooting. Or take a look around the app for inspiration before you turn the camera on yourself. You can also catch up with VOOV’s VJs on #VOOVTV on channel 196 on DStv from 5pm to 8pm daily when the channel broadcasts live streams of some of its brightest up-and-coming stars.

Outside of the three-hour live broadcast window VOOV uses the channel to show off the best of what end users have been creating on the platform, covering everything from celebrity news to music, dance, comedy and whatever else VOOVers are shooting and sharing.
