HMD Nokia announces new handset – the Nokia 7

Something tells us that HMD Nokia’s going to be sticking to numerical values for their smartphones for a while — the company has just revealed the Nokia 7, a new mid-range phone that sits… well, between the Nokia 6 and the Nokia 8.

And in more ways than just the number order, too. The Nokia 6 sports a Snapdragon 430 CPU, the Nokia 8 has a Snapdragon 835, and the Nokia 7? That’s got a Snapdragon 630 processor at its heart. The rest of the specs are similarly middling, with a 5.2in 1080p display and 4GB/64GB and 6GB/128GB RAM/storage options being the hardware highlights.

There’s also a 3,000mAh battery, microSD support, and then a so-called ‘bothie’ camera. This is a feature that lets users take a single with the front and rear camera at the same time. The Nokia 8 has the same function, for some reason, but we daresay that some fun-loving people will get a kick out of it. The rear camera has a 16MP f/1.8 sensor and the front a 5MP f/2.0 sensor.

As to when we’ll see it… that’s something else entirely. The Nokia 7, like previous handsets, only has a Chinese launch date and pricing for now. It’ll launch in that country on 24 October before showing up elsewhere. Overseas pricing puts the phone into the R5,000 to R6,000 range.
