Nokia 8 is go for launch on 16 August

All of the leaks can’t be correct all of the time and that’s certainly the case with the Nokia 8. Recently revealed in a hard-to-deny image leak, the Nokia 8 was initially thought to have a 31 July announcement date. That was wrong.

Instead, we’re going to be getting our first official look at the Nokia 8 on 16 August, the date that Nokia HMD have chosen for a London unveiling for the smartphone. The company has been sending out media invites for the London event, which should see the first new Nokia with Zeiss optics launched. New dog, old tricks, etc. It’ll be an evening affair, kicking off at 7:30 UK time.

If the specifications leaks are all above board then we can look forward to the most powerful Nokia to date — a Snapdragon 835, 4GB or 8GB of RAM, and a 5.3in QHD display are expected to have pride of place, in addition to those dual 13MP Zeiss cameras. Stepping up to the likes of Samsung and LG this fast is a bold move for Nokia HMD — let’s see if it pays off.

Blue (pictured above), silver, and gold models of the Nokia 8 are expected to launch, with the gold version also leaking in images recently. It looks… interesting. We’ll be sticking with the blue, thanks. In the meantime, stay tuned for the news from London in a couple of weeks.
