Samsung rumoured to have a Galaxy S8 Mini waiting for launch

When is a small phone not a small phone? That’s a trick question. The answer is: When it’s Samsung’s Galaxy S8 Mini, a handset that is rumoured to be launching in South Korea soon.

The Galaxy S8 Mini, an unconfirmed phone that has appeared via Chinese website IT Home, is supposed to be a scaled-down version of the excellent S8 and S8 Plus. Except that in this case ‘scaled-down’ means that the phone’s display is going to measure 5.3in.

Samsung is reported to be cramming that screen size into a frame that is closer to those found in other 4.7in handset, which would make it feel like an actual Mini. While also being larger than a Mini has any right to be, a combination that we’re okay with. Its bezels won’t be quite as slim as those seen in Samsung’s current headliners but you can’t have everything.

Other specs being thrown around are a dual camera (which we’re expecting to see in the Galaxy Note 8), 4GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, and a Snapdragon 821 processor. Those are not top-end specs but they’re still hefty for a phone that is traditionally cut back considerably from the flagship’s hardware.

Samsung hasn’t confirmed this report of of China but that’s not something that they’re prone to doing. If the initial report is correct the S8 Mini will launch first in South Korea.
