Samsung releasing Galaxy Note 7 ‘Fandom Edition’ in South Korea

Like a spring-loaded mole, just when you think its disappeared: there is it again. We’re talking about the phone that won’t go away, the Galaxy Note 7.

We’ve long known that some of the collection of handsets from last year’s Samsung mess would be reappearing, apparently as the Galaxy Note 7 R. Except… that’s not exactly right, according to the most recent reports. Samsung is, according to a report from the Wall Street Journal, going to be launching the Galaxy Note 7 ‘Fandom Edition’ in South Korea on 7 July.

Which, by all accounts, is a good name for a Note 7 re-release. There were many die-hards who really didn’t want to give up their phones but had to do so for the recall. Those fanatical users will have a second crack at the improved Note 7, which will feature a new set of internals. Just which bits are being replaced isn’t explained in the report but you can bet that the prone-to-ignition battery will find itself being swapped out for this launch.

Samsung are reportedly making 400,000 Galaxy Note 7 FE units available for South Korea, with smaller numbers going to (as yet unspecified) other countries at a later stage.
