Instead of the Galaxy S8, Samsung’s bringing a tablet to MWC

Samsung has already confirmed that they’re not bringing the Galaxy S8 to Mobile World Congress (though we suspect it’ll still be seen by a select few). Instead they’re bringing another drawcard, their first tablet in far too long.

At least that’s the impression we get from Samsung’s invitation to their MWC press conference. The company traditionally hints at the headliner in the invite and the hint being dropped here is a fair amount larger than a smartphone. It looks for all the world like the base of one of Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S2 devices, which were released back in 2015. That’s a long gap between tablets but the company has had other things on its mind in the intervening time. A tablet isn’t out of the question.

Up till now we haven’t even considered that Samsung might drop a tablet but, as usual, there are rumours out concerning a possible Galaxy Tab S3. Korean website ET News claims that the Galaxy Tab S3 (they seem sure about the name) will have two variants. One will sport LTE, the other will be WiFi only, but they should share most specs. A 9.6in, 2,048 x 1,536 display, 4GB of RAM, a Snapdragon 820, and a 12MP/5MP camera combination are the core specifications being shared at present.

Samsung hasn’t commented on these details but we’ll have all the answers following its Barcelona press conference. If they’re adding another tablet to their lineup we’ll happily take it for a spin. It’s about time for something new.
