This is (most of) what the Snapdragon 835 octa-core chip will entail

If you’ve been wondering which processor is going to be powering the world’s most powerful phones in 2017, the Snapdragon 835 is here to clear all of that up. The trouble is: Qualcomm probably wanted to keep the new octa-core processor’s details under wraps for a while longer. As usual, though, the internet wasn’t having any of that.

The Snapdragon 835 was first revealed by a Russian leaker earlier this month but further details of the Samsung-Qualcomm SoC collaboration have been detailed by a new leak out of China. The leak, which comes by way of a spec-sheet, reveals the number of cores, the GPU, and fabrication method. This last item gives us some hints about the RAM standard for 2017’s flagship phones, which is nice.

According to the newest leak the Snapdragon 835 will be an octa-core processor (an upgrade from the Snapdragon 821’s quad standard), with an Adreno 540 GPU and LTE X16 baseband support. Sadly, we’ve not been given processor speeds yet. We are given the 10nm FinFET fabrication process, which points towards the veracity of previous rumours that Samsung’s Galaxy S8 will arrive with 6GB of RAM as standard. Samsung has previously launched a phone with 6GB of RAM, and they’ve already revealed 10nm-compatible 6GB DRAM modules, so a new standard isn’t out of the question.

Also detailed in the leak are the specs for the Snapdragon 660, a mid-range processor that will likely be powering the top end of that particular spec bracket.

SamMobile points out that the leak also claims that Samsung is going to be showing off their Galaxy S8 at Mobile World Congress 2017. Our grasp of the language is a little rusty so we’re not wholly sure whether Samsung plans to debut the handset at MWC 2017 or if it’s going to be a full-on launch. We’ve got our sights firmly set on the end of February 2017 now, however. Samsung’s going to have something planned. As usual.
