We’re going to need a crowbar – Someone’s built the Half-Life City Scanner out of a drone

Anyone who has spent even a small amount of time in Half-Life 2‘s City 17 knows just what a bugger the City Scanners are. These little floating eyes aren’t much of a threat on their own but they do have a talent for summoning reinforcements in the vicinity, meaning you have to be careful when ‘disposing’ of them.

Seeing a Half-Life 2 scanner in real life is quite disturbing, given how much time we’ve spent hiding from them. It’s not the real thing but this custom drone build, which uses a DJI Naza-M Lite flight controller as a base, is extremely accurate. Right down to the distinctive sound effects (which are just a product of the video) and that light… creepy.

Anyway, catch the City Scanner in action in the video above, followed by a quick breakdown of the build process. You’ll also see that this drone/nightmare fuel is a lot bigger than it looks at first glance. Honestly, if this thing popped out of an alleyway, we would be heading in the other direction before you could say “Gordon Freeman”.
