Acer are getting into the VR game with the StarVR headset

Starbreeze is a game studio that has made some of our favourite titles, like 2004’s The Chronicle of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay and their most recent success in Payday 2, but they’ve gone in a slightly different direction with the StarVR headset. And they’re not alone – computer maker Acer will be helping to shape the hardware.

StarVRStarbreeze has announced that it will be teaming up with Acer to create the StarVR Virtual Reality Head-Mounted Display (to give it its full title). Just don’t expect to get your hands on a StarVR in stores before they turn up elsewhere. The Acer-and-Starbreeze joint venture is intended for “the professional- and location-based entertainment market” but that does leave the door open for retail sale later.

Acer will be assisting with “…the design, manufacturing, promotion, marketing and sales” of the StarVR, with company president and CEO Jason Chen saying that “We are devoting R&D resources across multiple aspects of the VR ecosystem for a coherent and high-quality experience, while just last month Acer announced powerful desktops and notebooks fully-ready for StarVR.”

Starbreeze has already launched the StarVR headset, showing it off at E3 2015, before taking it on a roadshow around the States.
