Samsung’s making a flip-phone with Galaxy S6 specs

The flip-phone didn’t go away, it’s just geographically divergent at the moment. Translation: You need to be in South Korea or China to buy one. Or trawling the very bottom of OLX search results. Both Samsung and LG still make them.

Samsung FlipBut the flip-phone could very well be in for a resurgence. In fact, we’re almost hoping that is the case because a new Samsung flip has leaked through Chinese regulator TENAA and the specs make it very clear that this isn’t a retro device – form factor aside.

Even the form factor is a nod towards more modern devices. Samsung have gone for the metal-and-glass route (sounds like a George R.R. Martin novel), with dual 3.9-inch Super AMOLED displays being just the start for the phone, known only as the SM-W2016 at the moment.

Other specs are the Exynos Octa 7420, 3GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, 16MP and 5MP cameras and Android 5.1. That might sound familiar but that’s because the specs are highly similar to the Galaxy S6 as well. Except for the physical numeric keypad, which we’d actually like to get our hands on.

Sadly, we probably won’t see it. Samsung haven’t explained their plans for the phone but like their other flip phones it’ll likely only see release in China. Unless something goes horribly right.
