Just announced, the Xiaomi Mi 4 has already got a price drop

Don’t think we don’t see what you’re up to Mobile In Africa (MIA) – keeping the new Xiaomi phones in the public eye with timed announcements around the South African launch. But we’re going to let this one go, because this particular announcement consists of a price-drop for the already cheap Mi 4 handset. And a spec boost for the Redmi 2.

The two Chinese handsets will be launching next week, with the Mi 4’s launch price getting a R200 cut before it’s even hit stores. So expect it to retail for R3,800 instead of R4,000. As for the Redmi 2, the price is going to be staying unchanged but the 8GB version of the phone is giving way to a handset with 16GB of storage. Not a bad deal, really.

MIA’s RJ van Spaandonk said “In keeping with our promise to provide South Africans with the best possible technology at the most incredible prices, we have decided to increase the storage of Redmi 2 from 8GB to 16GB, and lower the price of Mi 4 from R3,999 to R3,799. This is even more remarkable given that the ZAR has deteriorated by more than 10% against the USD since we released pricing in August of this year.”
