iPhone 6s Plus unboxing

The iPhone 6s and 6s Plus went on sale in South Africa today. We managed to fend off the marauding hordes and get our hands on a 6s Plus. To the casual observer, the 6s and 6s Plus are indistinguishable from their predecessors, but the 12-megapixel camera (and ability to shoot 4K video), 3D Touch display, upgraded processor, increased RAM and reinforced shell ensure the new models are at least as desirable as last year’s.

Of course, keeping the same form factor does have its benefits. Any cases, Olloclip lenses, windscreen mounts or other accessories you’ve already invested in will work just as well should you opt to upgrade from a 6 or 6 Plus to the updated equivalent.

So, is it worth upgrading to the new models? We think so, even with nasty bump in price over last year’s models thanks to the poor performance of the rand of late. If you do decide to upgrade you can trade in your existing iPhone 5s, 6 or 6 Plus to take the edge off the price of the new one.

Look out for our full review of the updated iPhone next week. Until then, this is one of the few times we wish smell-o-vision was actually a thing. Mmm, the smell of a new Apple device. Delicious!
