You have to love old leaks. Well, the ones that have proved to be mostly correct anyway. A couple of months back, Apple was reported to be extremely confident in the sales performance of their as-yet unseen (at the time) new handsets and the company has announced that they’re on track to being fully justified. Apple’s opening weekend for 2015 is expected to beat out the iPhone 6’s opening weekend, which saw 10 million units change hands.
But the majority of those sales will come from the iPhone 6s. The iPhone 6s Plus will reportedly be putting in a poorer showing but that’s because supply is going to be limited due to a problem with obtaining a specific component for the oversized phone.
Apple Insider reports that analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities has issued a note to investors saying that Apple is having trouble getting enough backlights for the iPhone 6s Plus. They are supposed to be getting them all from company Minebea but are unable to do so. As a result, they are looking to get a rush order of the component from another supplier, Radiant, which should be able to arrange the parts but it will take a little time.
Long story short, it might take longer than expected to get your iPhone 6s Plus – especially at launch. By the time SA gets onto the scoreboard, those supply-chain constraints will hopefully have cleared up.
