Sony’s three announced Xperia Z5 handsets could be joined by an Ultra variant

Sony have announced the existence of three new Xperia Z5 handsets, the Xperia Z5 Compact, the standard Xperia Z5 and then the Xperia Z Premium, which will be the first phone to market with a 4K display (unless Apple does something very odd tomorrow evening). But there might be an as-yet unannounced fourth addition to this family, the Xperia Z5 Ultra.

The handset’s existence has been pointed to by leaker @Leaksfly and there’s an estimated launch date for the phone – March 2016 is the date being bandied about. There are also a few specs expected for the unannounced smartphone and they’re kinda the reason why it’ll get the ‘Ultra’ moniker.

A 4K 6.44-inch display, made by Sony, would make this less a phone and more a tiny high-end TV, and there’s talk of 4GB of RAM and a Snapdragon 820 processor from Qualcomm.

A 4,100mAh battery and 23MP camera (also from Sony, naturally) are features that are expected to appear and if all of these did show up then everyone else has their work cut out for themselves out-speccing Sony’s expected phablet. And that’s a race that we’d gladly watch every day of the week.
