Another look at BlackBerry’s Venice slider phone

You must recall BlackBerry’s possibly-Android handset, called ‘Venice’, that has the folks at Stuff excited even while they’re a little confused. It looks as though its Android OS is all but in the bag, info that comes from a new render by prolific Twitter leaker @evleaks.

The new render (above) shows what Venice would look like running Android – an unusual tack that we really hope BlackBerry intends to explore. There’s little doubt that this is Venice, with the slide portion down over the keyboard, but with a wide selection of Google’s apps on the screen. Oh, and note the curved screen, which brings to mind Samsung’s excellent 2015 flagship.

Evan Blass, the fellow behind @evleaks, claims that this handset is heading to AT&T in the States. Unfortunately there’s no firm release date, nor is there any info on whether Venice will be pitching up here in SA and elsewhere outside the US.

And we do want to see it. The Android slider, with its 5.4-inch Quad HD display, Snapdragon 808 processor, 3GB of RAM and 18MP camera setup would be a welcome sight in South Africa stores. Especially since it’ll give Android fans a shot at a physical keyboard for a change.
