Standard Bank’s Apple Watch app coming in September

Standard Bank has announced it’ll release a dedicated Apple Watch banking app by the end of September. The app is currently in a pilot phase with a limited number of users, presumably in-house testers.

Standard Bank Smart Watch App (5)The bank recently added support for Apple’s Touch ID to its mobile banking app for iOS-powered devices like the iPhone and iPad.

“We are continuously looking for ways to make our customers’ lives easier and to make banking a seamless part of their daily lives. With our smart watch app we are providing greater choice to customers about how they would like to stay in control of their finances,” says Magnus Taljaard, Standard Bank’s head of digital customer solutions.

The Apple Watch app will offer a feature call “Balance Peek” that allows users to check their latest account balances without having to log into online banking or the their smartphone banking app.

“Balance Peek on smart watches is perfect for those moments when you need to quickly and unobtrusively check your balance,” Taljaard says, adding that an equivalent app for Android Wear-powered smartwatches will follow later this year.

Standard Bank is also planning to add smartwatch services that allow share-trading clients to track indices and shares, see the biggest market movers and track changes in their share portfolios. Your move FNB.
