BlackBerry’s Oslo handset, a modification of the Passport, leaks online

Today is a good day for secrets. BlackBerry may have just launched their Leap smartphone in South Africa, an event which took place last night, but they’ve also seen an upcoming handset leak online. Again.

The phone is the Oslo and don’t be alarmed if you’ve seen something a lot like it before. It does bear more than a passing resemblance to the Passport which was released some time back. There’s a reason for that. The form factor is just a part of it, the actual internals are taken almost whole from the Passport and transplanted into the Oslo.

Website N4BB seems to have gotten their hands on the phone itself, or got hold of someone else who did, and have reported that there’s a Snapdragon 800 processor (2.2GHz), 3GB of RAM and a 13MP camera inside the Oslo, as well as a 3,450mAh battery. That is, spec-for-spec, identical to the Passport. The difference comes in with the casing, more than anything else, with a steel and plastic build not seen in the older business phone.

The Oslo is intended for the EMEA and other select markets, which means there’s a strong chance we could see it here soon. We’ll keep you posted.
