Microsoft makes the 1TB Xbox One official, drops price on older model

There have been whispers about it happening but Microsoft has, ahead of the E3 conference which takes place next week, unveiled a new 1TB model of the Xbox One console. Whatever it is they have in store for gamers, it’s not this.

Still, a 1TB Xbox One is a welcome sight, as gaming on the older setup eventually calls for hard drive maintenance and pruning of old files. The new console, which is launching very soon overseas, will be arriving with a matte black finish, that extra 500GB of storage, and will also ship with a new wireless controller that incorporates a 3.5mm audio jack – so just about any gaming headset should do the job now. No more adaptors, yay! The controller will also be available separately, though Microsoft has yet to put a price tag on it.

As to where and when it’ll be available: The US and UK, as well as ‘selected markets’, will be getting the console starting 16 June. That’s next week, so we’re thinking it’s unlikely that SA is going to be getting it in the first rollout. Microsoft also announced a price drop for the older 500GB model for the territories getting the upgrade, an original Xbox One will now cost buyers in the States $350 (R4,400) – before tax is added. If we get locally-applicable details, you’ll be the first to know.
